Growing Pains.

Growing Pains or the sting
of needing,
or maybe it’s the stuff I’m reading.
Poems that move me,
books that prove me,
and while I'm reading
at least I’m not talking.
(Who can chew and continue walking?)

there’s so much there to chew on...

Growing Pains and other people’s words,
Undeterred, but still afraid
of moving.
Forward because it means away
from a onetime safe place,
or staying put with a brave face.
Standing still at a furious pace,
Then,
totally lost without visible trace?

With or without, if you have doubt
it erodes.
So you guard the gate while the house explodes.

Growing Pains and reflective surfaces,
I was born to lose.
Always bad at tying my shoes,
remembered the lines
but missed all the cues.
No-one but myself to self-abuse.

Tempus fugit - time flies.
Age brings lies,
questions reside in eyes,
real quests retire and die.

Why?

Well who wants to pick at sores?
Unless its for a worthy cause,
or part of the escape clause…

Growing Pains are window panes
in the last days of light.
What’s right?
Draw the curtain tight?
Lock it up without a fight?

I know this…
Listen when strangers speak,
because its safer not knowing what you seek.
The more you peek
the more you keep
shrinking.

Now I'm cruising without thinking,
refusing
to believe I’m drifting.
Or if this constant sifting
Will save me from drinking,
or sinking in doubt.

Or that you ever grow out
of growing pains.

I think I'm dead.

I've got no pains. I've got no windows. Just a bowl of corn chips and a cold can of beer and solitude and serenity apart from the gentle crescendo applause of rain on the tin roof.

Yes, must be dead and in heaven.
