A recent stay at Tugun on Queensland's Gold Coast has inspired the following :-
THE MILLION DOLLAR BALCONY
The long unbroken stretch of golden sand,
the wide expanse of ever changing sky,
the ocean complementing both, a player close at hand,
the view of all of these seen from balcony up high.
This trio all display different moods every day,
beach flagrant then most modest with the changing of the tide,
sky one moment desolate, next blue with clouds at play,
sea sometimes Dr Jekyll, at others Mr Hyde.
Despite such variation, the viewer is entranced,
a loophole found to a lottery win,
no need for a ticket, well-being is enhanced,
sun shining on the balcony gently warms the skin.
Walkers dot the seashore undertaking exercise,
fishermen and women test their skill,
a helicopter flits by, gains attention from the skies,
surfers ply their craft to overkill.
Sunsets and sunrises, a photographer’s delight,
sky and sand and sea all play their part,
left and right, distant high rise sparkle in the night,
where to look from balcony one knows not where to start.
But, yet I have to mention cavorting whales as well,
a stunning, not seen every day event,
plus, a rare blue moon rising over ocean swell,
time spent on the balcony almost heaven sent.
And all of this is happening during winter’s reign,
pity those who live where climate’s cold,
grandeur from the balcony wipes any wintry pain,
an outlook guaranteed to please both the young and old.
