In The Shadows Of your Mind
In The Shadows Of Your mind
With the sense of failure haunting and igniting people’s fears,
as they’re bowed beneath the weight of expectation by their peers
Making stress an enemy - the latest scourge to taunt mankind,
and that enemy is lurking in the shadows of your mind.
We have set the bar much higher in a race without a cause,
as we strive to one day wallow in some hollow fake applause.
And the danger signs are hidden, and ambition is so blind,
So, remember what is waiting in the shadows of your mind.
And there’s no one who’s immune now be you humble or of wealth,
this insidious disease is stalking everyone by stealth.
And its silent and its deadly to the victims it can find,
while it’s hiding out of sight there in the shadows of your mind.

Good one Terry, very succinct and full of meaning!
As you say stress can be lurking there in the shadows and strike anybody any time!
In this modern age of helter-skelter it makes me appreciate your outback poems even more!
Well done mate,
Ron

Hi Ron
A bit dark and different from what I usually try to write.
But it seems as though stress has become a modern-day epidemic.
With some (particularly young people) even taking their own lives,
there's something very wrong with our world today.

Thanks Catherine
As mentioned, it's a bit different from what I usually write.
But there seems to be an epidemic of young people in particular taking their own lives.
so tragic

Good one Terry. I really like the line "...as we strive to one day wallow in some hollow fake applause."

Thanks Wazza
The thing that prompted this was a spate of young deaths associated with stress etc.
And when you stop to think about it, we do stress about things that may seem important,
but really aren't.
Cheers Mate
