The Lizard Hunter

Post by Bob Pacey » Sat May 14, 2011 7:23 am

The Lizard Hunter

On quiet paws I prowl each day
With a hunters gaze I glance.
I cover each and every spot
Not a thing is left to chance.

The garden beds, the back yard shed
Where ever they should lurk.
I hunt and prowl, I seek them out
Whilst my master is at work.

What's that ! ah yes a noise I hear
A rustle in the grass, a breeze.
Or perhaps a nice fat lizard
Waiting there for me to seize.

Quietly now I must not move
I like a statue stand so still.
They will move again and then
I'll quickly pounce in for the kill.

I live here in the city
Where there is no place to run.
To herd a mob of cattle
No place to hunt for fun.

They should have known my breeding
When they got me as a runt.
The ginger hair, those bandit eyes
A kelpies always gonna hunt.

My masters always busy
With his work or other chore.
So I have to stay home all alone
it really is a bore.

On weekends he takes me fishing
In the creek down by the strand.
There's room to chase the birds and crabs
And run out across the sand.

But in my yard I am the Queen
Nothing moves that I don't see.
The dog next door may bark a lot
But in my yard the boss is me.

They think that I'm a house dog
But I have another claim to fame.
My master calls me Jinny
But Lizard Hunters my real name.

Loved it Bob - you have captured the Kelpie spirit

Found it a tad bumpy in places and so fiddled - think I was Nero in a previous life - Would this help a bit?

I’ll pounce in for the final kill.

where there is no place to run.
To herd a mob of cattle,
or to hunt or just have fun.

They should have known my breeding
when they got me as a runt.
The ginger hair, those bandit eyes.
Us kelpies herd and hunt.

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.

My Kelpie cross used to kill the blue tongues, I didn't want that. I saved a couple.
