NO GLOSS ON VOSS

While I'm not a great AFL follower, I can't help but notice the Brisbane media scrutiny of the Lions' lamentable season (and that of last year as well) and the pressure on Coach Michael Voss. "No Gloss on Voss" is an observation of the situation.

"We were in it till end of the Anthem"
coach Jack Gibson was once heard to say.
Much the same for the small town of Grantham,
wiped out very early in play.
A cynic may see correlation
in the Brisbane Lions' current season,
a subject of much conversation,
with thought the coach may be the reason.

Three wins out of twenty-four outings
is hardly the basis for boast,
in other codes there would be shoutings
and the coach would be surely "on toast".
But, coach Voss he says all is well,
that his strategy's right for the den,
somehow this doesn't quite gel
amid failures time and again.

Brownie they say's almost ready
to come back and lead from the front,
as a captain his presence is steady,
he's no stranger to toughness and grunt.
However, he's only one player,
there are seventeen more in the team.
No doubting that Brownie's a stayer
while the others have much to redeem.

Who knows what will happen hereafter,
will rabbits be pulled out of hats?
If not I think there will be laughter
when they meet with the Pies and the Cats.
So, what is the outlook for Vossy,
a champion when on the field,
his CV in coaching's not glossy,
is there talent that's not yet revealed?

The fans must be getting frustrated
seeing losses mount up every week,
their season's already cremated
and the stretch to October looks bleak.
Best now to look to rebuild,
forget about all the sob stuff,
get back to a team that once thrilled
'cause at present it's not good enough.
