I suspect that this a saucer of milk poem - but at least there are no knives involved. Just received notification (not from him) that my ex of 20 years is getting married. I am still waiting for my invite. Wonder if it would be considered in bad form to write a poem for his wedding - one that I could actually give to him - or maybe put together a little Youtube clip



I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST.

REALLY?




There are showers, spring flowers and bright sunny days
Time to clear out the clutter, and promises made
that weren’t kept, never would be, I see it all now
and if honest admit that I knew it somehow.

No harsh words were spoken, well nothing was said,
but the feeling was palpable – felt in my head
and my heart – oh I knew that you weren’t going to stay
like a distant horizon you faded away.

I thought maybe in time you might just return
and for years now I’ve waited and often did yearn
for the sight of your face walking in through my door
but I realize it’s over, forever. No more.

So today is a good day as any for me
to clear out the clutter in my memory.
I am packaging it up inside the cube
to be taken out sometimes and quietly reviewed.

I heard on the grapevine – you haven’t told me
that the wedding bells soon will play sweet harmony.
And cynic I am I think well that’s a laugh
for I knew you so well and she doesn’t know half.

But I wish you the best or I think that I do
and I hope you’ll be happy – is that really true?
Hope you’ll both believe all the promises made
in the church in September – your nuptial parade.

But I suspect there’s a bunny somewhere in this plot
and it isn’t me and I know you it’s not,
so that only leaves someone who's in doubt I say.
Hope you get it right this time – hope her dreams don’t sway.

Just think it took him trenty years to find someone as good Maureen. Mine remarried almost twelve months to the day which was the time the law allowed.

Does not say a lot for me does it.

It's a well written one Maureen, I think. The power of real emotions.

Since you asked advice. I think you have got "it" out of your system a bit by writing it down. Read it out angrily to the trees and sky.... then put it away ( in the recycle bin preferably )

Good advice Neville - it's water under the bridge really - almost down to a creek now and manageable It's the lack of courtesy that upsets me

Been there Maureen (as you know). 20 years is a long time to 'just put it behind you' as people suggest but I think it's probably easier when they do remarry, then you know it's really over. Mind you I didn't have long to wait to feel that way. Mine was able to put 'us' behind him pretty quickly. Like Bob it was pretty much 12 months to the day when he remarried and we had been together 27 years. Oh well, s**t happens as they say. Onwards and upwards girl.
