that is just so true.

we all make typos sometimes when we answer a post in a hurry. They occur and no damage is done because we take them at face value even if we do give the occasional dig, but when presenting a finished piece to the public gaze the presentation is so important, for people do not know us personally and so that is all they can judge us on - so it is most important that it be as perfect as we can make it.

I was on a writers site where one person continuously submitted work full of glaring spelling mistakes and totally incorrect basic punctuation and people would rave about how good this persons work was...I had the temerity once to point out exactly what you have said here, because it is IMO no good praising someone's work if it is inherently wrong. Well after being howled down by lots of them telling me that spelling and punctuation wasn't important it was the message and the story I decided they could all go jump and said that I would never be buying a book that any of them might publish as I get enough crap for free and certainly don't intend to pay to purchase more.

Don't know if they got the message, don't care...not my problem.. Dad drummed into all of his kids that a job worth doing is worth doing well...my son has also been taught that and it is a strong belief throughout my family - the detrimental side of that is however that if I don't think I can do something well I won't attempt to do it at all....fear of failure A not so new challenge to overcome.

I can relate to what you say Maureen.. Of course we all make mistakes, hopefully there is a chance to go back and fix up any mistakes after we check things.

I know very well what you are saying about being held back by fear of failure.
Believe me I know.
I have had some measure of success at overcoming this.
I was playing in an orchestra years ago and during a concert I messed up my part conspicuously. Afterwards I approached the conductor and apologised, he just said " the concert's over now, what happened doesn't matter anymore " I have often thought on that one, it helps me get some perspective, it's still hard.
