A round tuit

Post by Leonie » Thu Jun 23, 2011 8:00 am

Alan came home last night having a little whinge about having asked for something or other at work and being told to be patient, eventually they would get around to it. I told him he should just go to Bunnings and buy one, we could use one around here as well. He had no idea what I was talking about. I thought it was pretty clear. :? Everyone should have one, handy little things round tuits. :D

A Round Tuit
Leonie Parker © 2011

I’m gonna go to Bunnings ‘cause there’s something that I need.
Whenever I want something done it’s never done with speed.
I reckon I can fix that ‘cause there’s really nothin’ to it.
All I have to do is buy my very own round tuit.

My supervisor needs one and the boss might need one too,
’cause every time I ask them if there’s something they can do
to speed up my enquiries they assure me that they’ll do it
but I should just be patient til they get a round tuit.

So now I’m down at Bunnings with my credit card in hand.
The bloody sales assistant doesn’t seem to understand.
It has to be a round one ‘cause a square one just won’t do it.
They’re out of stock!! … He’ll order when he gets a round tuit!!

    my ex was actually given one of them that someone had made for him - with a list of all the jobs on it to be done - and no it wasn't me. It was the size of a dinner plate and had one of those swivel clips that hold thing together in the middle that could act as little arrows (clock hands) to point to the next job to be done should he get around to it.

Yes, somebody was selling these commercially in Melbourne many years ago. I have a feeling it was related to Keith Dunstan - he of the square footballs.

G'day all,

We used to make them and sell them at the school fete. We had the men cut them out of either ply or masonite. Next we painted them and finally fecorated them in bright colours with 'Round Tuit' written on them and a little poem attached explaining what it was. They cost us about 40 cents to make and sold for $2. Currently I have a very simple one made from a very thin slice of a tree branch (still with bark on it) and burned onto it the 'round tuit'. It is a fridge magnet. I put my list of things to do under it.

We also made the 'OBE's. along the same lines with OBE in big letters and 'Over Bloody Eighty' in small letters. We attached a ribbon so that it could be worn around the neck. These were decorated in gold and sold for $5.

OBE could also be over bloody everything - you would sell more that way at the fete Zondrae - not such a niche market

Nah, he didn't Irene, I had to explain because he had never heard the expression. That's where the poem came from. I mentioned having seen a poem about a round tuit and he wanted me to send it to him at work so he could send it on to his boss (yes he likes to live dangerously) but I couldn't remember where I saw it. I tried googling it, and you wouldn't believe how many poems there are about round tuits. It was easier to chuck a rubbish one together myself rather than wade through them looking for the one I remembered, which was a whole lot better than mine. There are hundreds of images of round tuits as well. Who woulda thunk it. I know I say there are no new ideas, but this one has whiskers on it.
