Good one Marty, couldn't agree more. I rarely bother to read other forms either. I don't see the point of wading through heaps of stuff I'm not interested in on the off chance that I might come across something that I might actually like. Jeez, I don't even like every single piece of bush poetry that I read but even the extremely bad ones are more interesting than most of the stuff that I am told is 'good' in the other forms that I have had thrust upon me in the past.
That's just me, each to their own ...
but I must agree with Marty. I am not a college smartie
even though there are some people who will swear that I am red
and there’s some will say I’m yellow but but I'm really only mellow
so I'll finish with - 'our preference leaves other forms for dead.'

Re: Blissful ignorance
G'day Leonie and Bob,
When the rhyme is too sublime and the metre so much sweeter
than the hip hop or the rap that they are voicing in the street
then I'm not averse to saying, (what I think's akin to praying,)
that I love my rhyme and metre and I've never been disceret.
Deep down I think 'if it don't rhyme it ain't real poetry.'

I have said before me Ol Mum rest her soul (who was a learned Lady) if it rhymes and rolls off your tongue then you are on the right track. Bush poetry does that for me.

I Keep Trying
Re: Blissful ignorance
Yep I tend to think 'if it don't rhyme it ain't poetry' too, and it isn't even all that deep down.
But having said that, I also agree with Neville that the metre is just as important as the rhyme, even though I may never get that perfect. But I try, and try, and try. It's very trying.
Your Mum was a smart lady Dave. I think she got it right. Rhymes and rolls off the tongue, couldn't have put it better.

G/day Marty,
I notice your meter is pretty good these days, in fact it's come along in leaps and bounds.
And for anyone who still struggles don't let it get you down just write for the enjoyment of it,
you'll get on top of it sooner or later.
It doesn’t really matter if your rhyme and rhythms out a bit,
Or if the poem that you have written isn’t going to be a hit.
It’s all about enjoyment here and not how good you are,
who cares about the odd slip up, or if your meter starts to jar.
Cheers Terry

morning all,
Looking back at this thread... we will have to be careful or we will all be posting in rhyme all the time. his would have a detrimental effect on the flow of conversation. OK that's my bit for the day.

Hi Glenny,
One things for sure it couldn't be any worse, and I reckon we'd stack up pretty well against the boofheads in there at the moment.
