Grandad's Purple Donkey
Re: Grandad's Purple Donkey
Thats right there should be a law against writing poems like this. Us old fellows could go the same way as grandpa.
Love it though!

Thanks Manfred - to get a comment out of you is a real achievement, so to get a compliment -
well, I'm thrilled to bits!!! Thank you
Sue, thank you also for your kind words of encouragement. I'm off to Toastmasters in a few minutes to do my first speech. I'm thinking of pulling out, I think I'm sick ...
Noel, I'm sure you're still just a spring chicken! It was a pity to bump old Grandad off, but that's just the way the story wrote itself. Wasn't my original intention, it just grew in its own direction.
I'm off to Toastmasters now, oh dear, I feel ill .....

Did not really like it when i first read it Kym, but that was some time ago and i can see the work that has gone into making it a fantastic poem amd great story.

Kym will go all right Heather, she did a great job at the Festival on the weekend and is getting more confident with every performance.
Just gotta get her into the funny poems a bit more and she will have them rolling in the isles.

Well Kym I have just come indoors from my shed and you made me cry, you have a special way with words, It’s no wonder that you win.
This is one I made for the Great Grandson and from this day forth I will see little rocking horses in a different light. Thanks for sharing Dave.

Thanks everyone!
Ross, you're like Manfred - hard to get a comment out of, so a compliment is worth a million bucks!
Bob
You didn't like my poem at first??? Huh!
Oh well, you prefer the funny stuff, that's ok. I'll get there once I've got a bit more confidence ...
Dave -
That is a gorgeous little rocking horse!!! He's beautiful. I'm very impressed and I'm sure your great-grandson will love it! Wow, you are a talented man.
Heather - I survived my first speech! It went ok, my voice was a little bit shaky at times, but not too uncontrollable. I had palm cards but forgot to refer to them, so I missed bits out, and when I did think to look at them, I was on the wrong card! Luckily, I knew what I was saying well enough, I glossed over the rough spots and I reckon no-one will ever know the bits I missed! All up, I'm pretty happy with how I went.
My theme was how we have to change and reinvent ourselves every few years to cope with new stages in our lives (toddler/school kid/working life & adulthood/parenthood//where am I now/what's next? and compared those changes to a butterfly with different colours every time it re-emerges. I had sticky taped various printouts of butterflies to a music stand and flipped them over at each relevant point. At the conclusion, I moved away from the lecturn and had the hippy/butterfly shirt on that you saw in in the photo, saying they were my new colours blah blah blah. They liked that bit.
Martyboy - thanks mate!
Anyway, I'd better have a warm milo to settle my excitement and go to bed!

Re: Grandad's Purple Donkey
Dave, I just had another look at your photo, and have to say how impressed I am with the cleanliness of your workshop and how well organised everything is in little labelled containers! It's just how I imagined the workshop to look in the poem. I used to hang around my Grandad as he worked in his shed, followed him step for step, copied things he said and did. I guess we draw on our own personal experiences when writing sometimes ...
Re: Grandad's Purple Donkey
Good on ya Kym. Well done. That's the worst bit over now.
Dave I'd have to say that little rocking horse did remind me of Kym's poem. Do you make them for mates?
It's a very nice rocking horse Dave. YOu are very clever.
