Many thank for the correcting of the name I never bothered to check wether a raptor or nightjar we just knew it as a mopoke and some how the name owl just got tacked on to it. but all joke aside there are many pieces of wild life and objects that have common names, that might not be correct.

I agree with you Bill, when we were kids growing up in the sticks we thought the Mopoke was as least a cousin to the Owl and I am sure we used to watch them catching mice, But our bird book says no, so I just have to believe the book.

Dave, I found an article on the web that says that the Frogmouth, or Mopoke mainly eats insects but sometimes eats mice. They have a photo there with a mopoke swallowing a mouse. Your observation is vindicated.

Sure I put a post up here yesterday. I have a resident pair of frogmouths in the park and ther tend to roost in the same tree each day so it is easy to point them out to the tourist. I have seen them catch small lizards and I have no doubt they would grab a mouse if it presented itself.

Beautiful birds you are right Heather.
