As warm and fuzzy as your dreams and wordplay may be, unfortunately I feel you are only seeing a small part of the picture through rose coloured glasses and from your distant and sheilded environments, I have been closely involved with these people for well over twenty years and sadly I have to say it is getting worse rather than better. You are right when you say what these people can do but unfortunately they choose not to. I am aware that some Aboriginal people....or people with Aborigional heritage in their past, can and are quite successful, unfortunately they are in a minority and it doesn't look like changing anytime soon, the big problem is, as soon as anyone acts to try and help these people they are branded racist, sadly if we wait for them to fix their own problems it will never happen. You can't bring people from the stoneage to the spaceage in one motion, the sooner people realize that the better.

Near on 50 years ago I employed them, most were good and some, well enough said.
They were full blood Aborigines the Barkindji people were and as black a charcoal with a happy smile and full of laughter they were our skinners fine upstanding men not afraid to work as long as they knew what to do properly. A roo skinned properly was worth money and poorly very little. Ronny and I paid them well and looked after them and their families. We were one very large happy family though at one stage there were 45 that were living at our camp but hard as it was we had to lower the number that lived there.

They were extremely good stock men and the stations had more there than were needed so wages were low to accommodate the numbers employed.
But what you people do not understand is they are proud family people, people who bonded together who share what they have through good and bad times.
The stations in turn gave them basic medical treatment and education and a certain amount of supplies the white do goodder screamed slave labour they must have full wages full list of supplies. All right there is only so much paid labour a station or job can afford there is only so much that can be aloud for so people must be retrenched or relocated it is sad that these thing happen. But white people are the offenders most time in the gaining of the holy dollar. You cannot take a stone age person out and make a him a brilliant brain over night. Some natives do and can climb to great heights just the same as you and I.
These people find it hard to manage money and handle grog and yes we do all of that and more.
But no one throws money at us. But a lot of do-gooders and Pollies do through all the stupid aid that they give them instead we should be making them stand and earn what they get.

Hi Bill,
That's what I meant when I referred to the Gov rep/ coordinator not doing what they were hire to do but taking the easy way out for there own benefit.
They get paid for turning up every day do the paperwork for their hours and for the people they call 'participants' and run activity study programs, find tutors and be on hand.

The people get paid for turning up to their own Community House with a garden they can't work in, because the House Committee say they have to have a Grant for a programmed Activity. The money not spent on running costs went into the unknown.

They had a Grant for Computers for programmed classes for Adults, but as the families did not have computers at home, they were not enthused to learn, and it didn't matter they only had to come through the door sign the book to qualify for extra payment.

Children went to school and left at morning recess. Being present at roll call meant the family received extra allowance.

The Coordinator gave the attendance sheets to the Committee, reported on how many people attended the programs and gave details for the ongoing proposed activities. The Committee were only interested with 'bums on seats' and the attendance sheets.
The Coordinator got paid, the committee Secretary got paid and The Chairperson got paid. This was 10years ago.

Everything was above board on paper so everything was fine, wasn't it?

IF you are unemployed you can get paid if you sign up for Training sessions, but of course you don't need to actually do anything!!

All are equal...
