OUR BILL


Our Bill was a horseman,
a bush drover too,
far away from his boyhood
at Woolloomooloo.
He learnt at the campfires
from hand-written sheets
and committed to memory
line upon line;
the old rhyming ballads
he still loved and knew.
Now, at eighty five years,
sadly, Bill's gone to answer
to that mystic presence,
the great higher-power.
Yes it's true folks, it is,
as sure as I speak,
Bill went out and guess what,
he got married last week.

True story Heather, Bill hailed me down town this morning and proudly introduced me to his new wife.

They got married last Friday. A very nice lady in his age group I think, other than that, I don't wish to know.
