ON A TREE BY A RIVER

ON A TREE BY A RIVER

Beneath draping branches I sit in the shade
enjoying each moment of the serenade
by the magpies and curlews and zebra finches brown
who are busy with nest building, whilst all around
the soft grasses wave over paddocks tinged green
and above are the whitest clouds I've ever seen.

In my sleep sodden head I can hear a refrain
of a forgotten song now remembered again,
and the setting is fitting and the feeling is mellow
as the words echo softly - titwillow, titwillow.
By the river I'm resting no need of a pillow,
whilst high in the heavens, clouds froth, foam and billow.

And one could be forgiven for thinking a dream
is just playing out here. Scene followed by scene.
The tinkling notes of the bell birds ring clear,
and if one looks closely a foraging deer
is there, lightly dappled with colours that blend
with the yellowing grasses and rushes that bend.

And the melody's soft in my head but escaping -
oh, willow, titwillow, titwillow.

Lovely Maureen! I wish I had the time to enjoy a place like that, always rush, rush, rush for me. Enjoyed reading it and gave me a couple minutes of peaceful time in my head anyway. I like how you ended it very gently, with just the two lines, like you've drifted off to sleep and couldn't finish the poem .... ;)

Now Kym !!!! Everyone in the world has the same amount of time every day.

It is how you use it that counts.

Nope. I'd love to, but just too busy. Big weekend planned, working, working. I think Malcolm was going over. Say hi to Margie for me and have fun!
