Ribbons and Bows

© Stephen Whiteside 07.10.2011

Ribbons and bows, ribbons and bows,
In hair and on chests and on winners at shows.
From flibbets like these our society flows;
Ribbons and bows, ribbons and bows.

I once met a man with a prize Angus bull.
His workday was busy. His routine was full.
There's always so much, with a bull, you must do.
He came home one day with a ribbon of blue.

Ribbons and bows, ribbons and bows,
In hair and on chests and on winners at shows.
From flibbets like these our society flows;
Ribbons and bows, ribbons and bows.

I once met a man who had won a V.C.
Hung from its ribbon, 'twas striking to see.
I wondered out loud if he'd killed many men.
He crossed off my name with a stroke of his pen.

Ribbons and bows, ribbons and bows,
In hair and on chests and on winners at shows.
From flibbets like these our society flows;
Ribbons and bows, ribbons and bows.

I once met a girl with a bow in her hair.
She gazed in my eyes and I melted right there.
Now we have children. Well, that's how it goes.
They look very pretty in ribbons and bows.

Ribbons and bows, ribbons and bows,
In hair and on chests and on winners at shows.
From flibbets like these our society flows;
Ribbons and bows, ribbons and bows.

No adverse reaction to Stevo, must be an old nickname ?

Might try Zonnie again and see how I go, I'm too old to die young.

This is my favourite bit Stephen ...

I once met a girl with a bow in her hair.
She gazed in my eyes and I melted right there.

Sounds as though you adore your wife. Lovely to hear.

Yes, thanks, Kym.

I don't get Stevo very often, Bob, but yeah, I'm OK with that.

Zonnie?

Funny, isn't it, how you come to expect a response when, really, you shouldn't ever expect anything - especially as it's not a particularly distinctive piece of verse!
