Thanks for that Zondrae,
I was thinking of getting Publisher. Irene and Bill have also given me a few tips. At the moment I haven't got a laser printer but it does sound as though that's the way to go if you're going to do much printing. I'm not thinking of doing too many, just a few for family and friends as gifts.

I would steer clear of 'Publisher'. You can do everything you need for a book in 'Word'. I have made up my next one over the past two days and it is at the proofreader as we speak. (and I'm using a MAC. that I am not comfortable with yet)

Gawd! you mob crack me up . coming in a bit late here Kym, but my latest & 3rd book, published, printed etc, etc, in the States is about to be released, I have sectioned, bush poetry, general poetry, military related poetry, ABC Topical poetry & sonnets & each section dated from 2007, 2008 & 2009.

Here's me thinking of printing a few books to give to the family etc.
And I find myself rubbing shoulders (so to speak) with a bunch of
media tycoons with their own publishing and distribution outfits, Wow.

Forgot to mention, with my 1st two books I toddled off to our local printer, sat down & worked out cover design, page no's, price, etc. ordered about 300 then when the stocks were down to about 50 I'd order 50 at a time as the sales slowed down, I also bugged the hell out of radio stations & the newspapers until they helped promote my books, I also promoted on different web sites.

Now quite a number of web sites, ABC far north & one of our other local popular radio stations have both contacted ME asking to let them know as soon as my new book is released, & I have received the same request from the 'features' editor at our local paper, there is also 2 freelance journo's who are waiting to review my new book, these 2 reviewed my 1st two books as well & write reviews for a number of different mags & papers, so promotion plays a huge factor if you want to sell your books.

I know my poems are not academically or technically perfect (but I am getting better) but, I do enjoy promoting 'Aussie' poetry & I like to think that if someone enjoys my work it just might send them in the direction of even better poets like our greats or you mob here

You have got to be doing something right mate, your type of success doesn't come unless there is a lot of appeal there for purchasers of of your books etc. As you say you have put a lot of effort into promoting your books and I'm sure that's an important ingredient, but don't sell yourself short David, people obviously like what the see. Good on you and good luck with your next book as well, although I'm not sure you need any luck.
