A QUIET ? WEEKEND.

Post by Neville Briggs » Sun Feb 05, 2012 4:01 pm

A QUIET ? WEEKEND.

The gentle rain was falling,
falling, falling on the land.
And now the sun is shining,
shining, shining bright and hot.
So all those lawns are growing,
growing, growing out of hand.

Whirling whipper-snippers
whizzing, whizzing in my ears.
Blaring motor mowers
roaring, roaring raucously.
Shrieking power edgers
rasping, rasping bring my tears.

My gritted teeth were gnashing
gnashing, gnashing as I cursed.
My tender head is throbbing
throbbing, throbbing fit to burst.

If they don't stop that whizzing,
roaring, rasping racket soon,
Then I'll be screaming, screaming
screaming, like a livid loon.

SHADDUP !

Thanks Heather  and Marty. It isn't much, just an exercise. I just had the urge to try out an emphatic rhythmic style. I think Maureen reminded me with the comment about contrived verse, deliberately putting things in the structure for effect quite apart from any storyline.

The repeated words were meant to give the " musical " effect of something going on and on and on and getting on your nerves.

A bloke up the road let his grass get to a couple feet tall. I wanted to watch him tackle that but missed him when I was at North Pine Bush Poets on Sunday. Saw him today though......looked like a freshly cooked prawn. Revenge of Nature? Good poem Nev.
