'Twas the night before Christmas

Post by Leonie » Tue Dec 28, 2010 12:18 pm

I was fooling around with this little poem on Christmas Day after hearing adverts on radio during the week that were getting the opening times on Christmas Eve wrong. And then I came in and saw Irene's lovely poem with the same name. There was no way I was going to put this nonsense up then so I deleted it but something went haywire with my computer and it is still there, so it must be meant to be. Sorry Irene, your poem is so lovely and then I go and do this, will you ever forgive me? :)

Not a true story I'm pleased to say, just what could have happened.

‘Twas the night before Christmas.

‘Twas the night before Christmas, the shops were all shut
and I’d not done the shopping, I’d sat on my butt
thinking they would be open til midnight at least,
there was plenty of time to stock up for a feast.

But alas and alack I had gotten it wrong
they had all shut their doors before I came along.
I had been so hell bent on avoiding the queue
I had missed out completely. We’d have to make do
with whatever was lurking on dark pantry shelves.
(It was moments like this I could use Santa’s elves.)

So that’s how it happened. I’m sorry to say
that the lunch I’d been planning for this Christmas Day
is just not gonna happen and sadly that means
that our Christmas Day lunch will be toast and baked beans.

G'day Leonie,

The true meaning of Christmas has nothing to do with luxury. Baked beans sound fine to me.. in fact, Matilda asked for baked beans for Christmas dinner and her doting Grandpa went and got them for her. She tucked in while we ate our Chicken, Lamb, Ham, hot veg etc. etc. everyone was happy and it is the happy gathering that makes the spirit.

I'll post 'Cristmas Decorations' if I haven't already.

Between your baked beans Leonie and Nevilles cabbage and chillies things could become very uplifting on this site - almost like the wind beneath your wings

Cheers

That's clever and funny Leonie. Made me laugh and reminded me to get some shopping done in the next day or two.
