Interesting. I've only just started to read a bit of Paterson and I do like some of his work - not that I've read much at this point but I found a lot of it much the same. I find Lawson has a much better use of language. That's not to say Paterson isn't good at what he does but Lawson reaches into my heart. I'll keep reading... :)

Yes, Paterson is an interesting case. To my mind, he wrote half a dozen poems that stand head and shoulders above the rest of his work.

His journalistic work - 'Happy Dispatches' - is very interesting, and certainly worth reading. It's not particularly engaging at an emotional level, but it gives a fascinating insight into the times.

So far Stephen I like: In Defence of the Bush - you can hear the indignation in it; Clancy and The Bush Christening. A lot of them sound the same to me though. I never get tired of reading Lawson.

Paterson for me. So many of his works are still talking the talk

The Man from Snowy River.
Clancy of the Overflow.
Mulga Bill's Bicycle.
The Man from Ironbark.
Waltzing Matilda, of course.

That's about it for me.

By the way, did you see that 'The Dawn', the newspaper created by Henry's mother, Louisa, has just been made available online?

Yes, it's a good poem, but I wouldn't put it in the class of the others. Personally.
