Re: Bush Poets
I agree Stephen,
I'm probably thought of as a person who writes mostly of the bush, which in a sense is true.
But on the other hand I also dabble a fair bit with social issues and also what I suppose you'd describe as general rhyming poetry and believe it or not, I'm determined to have a go at free verse this year just for the satisfaction of giving it a try.
I also know that though you may have a thing about horses you share with me in enjoying something very similar, C.J. Dennis 'The Old Master'. It may be old, but it's also top shelf I reckon.
Cheers Terry

Re: Bush Poets
Terry, they were bullocks, a complete different proposition entirely! But no, I know what you mean. It's a great poem although, interestingly, Dennis' main illustrator, Hal Gye, who'd seen a lot of bullockies in his day, reckoned it was right over the top.
Neville, have you ever read 'Such is Life' by Joseph Furphy? Talk about a bunch of bullocky philosophers!

Re: Bush Poets
I hate horses. More correctly, thay hate me. Every time I walk past one they try and bite, kick me or otherwise inflict humiliation upon me. Can't get on one. Get thrown right away. I reckon I really stink to high hell as far as horses are concerned.
I don't take it personally.
In fact, I got the Melbourne treble up last weekend.
I eat horse with relish.
It's better with gravey though.
I used to feed horse meat to my dogs years ago til I realised they were eating better than me.
Gotta go and put my fetlock up.

A very famous book Stephen. Such is Life by Joseph Furphy. And I have not read it

Re: Bush Poets
Read it then. (Just a suggestion.)
I have to confess my daughter absolutely adores horses, and is a very good dressage rider. What is more, I willingly take her riding every Tuesday afternoon - because she is my daughter.

I did say similar Stephen, (both beast of burden I suppose you could say)
As for being over the top, a lot of the well known poems are a bit.
While I have nothing against horses; these days I prefer the ones under the bonnet of my old Toyoto.
By the way are you going to Tamworth Stephen?

Similar. So you did. Yes, sorry. I missed that.
No, Terry, I'm not going to Tamworth this year.

That's a pity Stephen,
It would have been nice to have caught up with you in the flesh so to speak.
I doubt I'll get there again for a fair while if ever, I'm only going this year because we're visiting my Daughters family in Canberra and as we're so close considering we come from Perth it seemed too good an opportunity to miss.
Cheers Terry

Yes, that is a shame, Terry.
