Kids Poetry

Post by mummsie » Thu Jul 25, 2013 11:13 am

Some of you may recall Anna, a young girl who attends the Garren after school care where I did a kids poetry session last year (some of her poetry was posted in the childrens section on the forum). Well I"m excited to tell you that Anna has since written a whole book of poems, some of which I hope to share with you real soon. Anna suffered a badly broken arm earlier this year which laid her up for sometime and the book was the result of that. Anna's continued interest in writing has spurred some of the other children into writing prose as well and subsequently a plan is now in place to launch their work in book form sometime in October. I received a phone call today asking if I could make myself available for the launch (you bet I will) and also seeking permission to include one of my poems in the book. How exciting is that!! :D :D
I was also asked for ideas on compiling the work in readiness for the book, so I'm asking forum members for your ideas. I understand that some of the children, who are not writers, will be contributing illustrations. Go the kids!!!!!
I will keep you informed of the books progress in the coming weeks.
Cheers
Sue

What a great idea and how good is that - Go the kids and lovely they have thought well enough to include their 'mentor' in the process. You must be proud .

Cheers

Thanks all.
Sounds like all is going well with you David. Great to hear. Maybe we'll get to hear the duet sometime.

Great news Sue.

What ideas were you looking for ? I don't know much about compiling a book, but if you can say what you want to know, maybe I can find out from someone.

Something along the lines of blurb - http://lp-au.blurb.com/g/book-selfpublish? - might be helpful. A trade book 6 inches x 9 inches about the size of a Spirax notepad with 20 B and W pages ordered in quanties of 50 - 99 gives a 20% discount and works out at about $5 a book soft cover -- and over 99 they give a 25% discount. Double the price for colour

You do all the work of setting it up (not too difficult) and hey presto they publish and dispatch.

Thanks Neville, Maureen and Bob. I'm not sure exactly what the coordinators looking for. I was simply asked if I had any ideas and I said I'd put the feelers out. (never having published anything I'm completely new to it) He did mention he had done a few coffee table books for the kids so I don't think his completely flying solo. In any case I will pass on that site Maureen.
