Manfred mentioned in another post about walking in someone else's shoes. Anyone with opinions on this subject might walk in the shoes of the cops on the beat Friday and Saturday night, both in the city and country towns, or the cops who have to pick up the wretched ruins of domestic violence, then you will know what's what. ( I've done it...many times )

How the...does this get into general poetry discussion. :o

G'day guys. thank you for your thoughts on the subject. good to hear what people really think about it. Duncan.

Clancy's gone a droving,
They think up Queensland way,
He bolted from the city,
His hair was turning grey.
The gutter-urchins shock him,
You'll affend him if you swear.
He didn't like the dirt and smog,
And i suppose that's his affair.

(Sid Elliott)

The shearer's grizzle both day and night,
And they drink cheap plonk with mad delight,
They tremble in horror, and shake with fright.
In the big sheds west of the Darling.!

It seems very clear that marijuana use increases the risk of psychotic illness/episodes in people who already have a tendency in that direction. Whether it increases the risk of psychosis in people without that predisposition is, I think, less clear, but my suspicion is that it does.

I am fairly sure also that I read or heard recently that long term marijuana use causes observable structural changes in the brain.

I am less sure about its effects on other organs.

I do know that it is taken up by the body's fat cells, and released very slowly over a period of up to thirty days, which is very different to most other drugs, including alcohol, which are generally out of the system by 72 hours at the latest.

I've met a couple of people who were heavy users and one in particular had his brain stewed - a man with an engineering degree that last time I spoke to him could barely put two words together. As long as he's happy......

Despite what some might think and no matter what Heather ;) says I am a social drinker but I just cannot understand the need to drink to get drunk or take drugs including weed to get your jollies.

But then I cannot see why people get tattoos or put rings in their ears noses belly buttons and other parts ect.

Because we can Neville , We discuss so many varied subjects that's what makes the forum interesting.

Blessed are the peace-makers Nevvie ... particularly those who walk the Valley in the shadow of alcohol fueled violence (on any weekend) ...

Irrespective of the deleterious personal effects of either alcohol or cannabis, I've yet to see instances of cannabis fueled violence ...

Wouldn't be entirely sure about that either, Mannie. Florid paranoid psychosis can lead to some pretty erratic and disturbing behaviour.
