This has really been an interesting exercise from at least two angles, the subject matter and the construct.

This piece literally popped out of the blue. I sat down and just started writing. There were initially two tropics intertwined in this piece. As this is a Native theme, I ran it past a Yorta-Yorta friend of mine. She was glowing in her praises for it's accuracy and essence. So it's most definitely Australian content.

I pulled the two themes apart and published one theme here in the "General Poetry Discussion" - for discussion.
Prior to publishing it here, I ran it past another Forum member, who gave their opinion. I then asked should I make it rhyme? They gave their opinion again.

Is this piece shyte because it doesn't rhyme?
Or is it shyte because of the subject matter ?
Serious questions.

Zondrae, four and six lined stanzas (or odd lined stanzas) have been frequently used by Ogilvie and A.L. Gordon and to a lesser extent by both Lawson and Paterson.

Manfred, some of the greatest poetry in the English language doesn't rhyme ( Shakespeare's plays, the biblical psalms for example ), any disparagement of your verse along the lines of not rhyming, I would have to think, just shows the critics profound ignorance of the tradition of poetry.
So the above quoted question is a non-question. Doesn't need to be asked.

William Carlos Williams has said " Anything is fit material for poetry ". Since William Carlos Williams is a poet of international acclaim and widely published, and your critics are not, I think Wiliams' comment has the authority to answer the above quoted question.

Looking at the criticism here I can't see any critic actually stating any literary reasons for devaluing your piece Manfred. So I think you can be certain that there is no valid reason why it can't be accepted as an authentic bush poem.

G'day all,

It appears to me that every time we discuss this topic we go in a nice circle and come out with everyone at exactly the same place they were when we began. In my case, when I read a good piece of writing and I feel something, I don't much care what the style is. (But I catch myself thinking 'You would think they would take the time and trouble to make it rhyme.')
Another thing that upsets me is the air of superiority that some academic types display when I mention that I write 'bush poetry'. In fact I have stopped using this term in certain circles. I prefer to say I write with Rhyme and Metre. Some University types, and I did say some, still look down their collective noses at rhyming poems as though they are a 'lesser' type of verse. I'm sure I am not the only one who finds some poems, that are supposed to be brilliant, appear to be just a jumble of unconnected statements. I guess I am a peasant at heart.

Manfred, I was not questioning the number of lines in the stanzas only the fact that one stanza was not like the others, standing out like the proverbial sore thumb.
