Heather in many early mining towns goats were kept for there milk as they were more easily kept than cows as feed was hard to come by.

Thanks Mal.
Thanks Bill. Not sure why they were kept in Kilmore as I know there were plenty of cows in town. On most people's wills the cow was listed and was often one of the most valuable pieces of their property. Some cows were kept on the common.

Re: The Lion's View
Excellent writing again Heather!
As always your imagery is first class and your writing is smoothly crafted, in my opinion. I believe this is the second top work you have posted recently. You must be on a literary roll!! If so, keep up the momentum. You are clearly a lady of enormous talent. Please deliver more in the same classic style. Does not have to be a long and tedious poem weighing a kilogram to be good! Short, well-crafted and straight to the point, as you have done here!... brevity. Again congratulations on a very good poem and thank you for the time you spent producing it, and sharing it with fellow enthusiasts.

It was in the early part of the mining towns history that they had goats for both milk and cheese then when cows came along later in the settlement the goat roamed free.
