Winters Coming

The winter chill was coming, you could feel it in the air
the mornings with the air so crisp enough to crack your hair.
The season it was turning, of that we had no doubt
the call went up from further south, lets go, pack up, get out.

The migration now has started lines of cars with vans in tow
All headed up to sunny Queensland, where the big bananas grow.
Seeking out the warmer climates, they all start the yearly run
Catching up with friends from last year, always searching for the sun.

Some tramp the roads and byways, cross the outback rivers bare
other stick to coastal regions, breath the healthy fresh salt air.
Like bull ants on the trail of meat, they follow on the scent
of fair and finer weather, with their van ,camper or tent.

Then when they find that perfect spot, that home away from home
they put down solid roots and call it the place their second home.
They’re part of our community and they return each and every year
every now and then we loose one and quietly shed a tear.

So welcome them with open arms, make them feel one of the crew
They are all just really true blue Aussies just like me and you.
Stoke up the open campfire and maybe burn the eiderdown
get ready for some fun because the Grey Nomads are in town.

Once it drops below 25 degrees us Queenslanders get cold Heather - it is 23.7 here and I am in Ugg boots and a tracksuit
