THE INTELLECTUALS GUIDE TO GARDENING
Virgil Glebsen has a garden
where the wild things wander free.
It is not disturbed by digging
or by tacky topiary.
There are dandelions and thistles
where the vegies used to grow,
but it all looks nice and green
with just a quick and gentle mow.
Then the magpies and the wagtails
can pick through the tasty bits,
as Virgil turns to better things —
for gardening dulls the wits.

Oh Neville - I do hope you are not Virgil
I suppose gardeners are like poets - you either are or you aren't and you get it or you don't.
Nice to see my poetry prompt bear fruit with so many people
Virgil is a silly fellow
for one can’t help but be moved
taking time to smell the roses -
by their beauty one is moved.
Virgil perhaps has no roses
Virgil may only have weeds
if that’s so then Virgil really
needs to garden – plant some seeds.
Virgil’s efforts are rewarded
bees will pollinate his flowers
and Virgil will get enjoyment
watching birds for many hours.

I think I know the garden that inspired that poem Neville.
Maybe you should start with a pot plant!

We are much alike Maureen, I am, like him, a great fan of cryptic crosswordsMaureen K Clifford wrote:Oh Neville - I do hope you are not Virgil

Gardens are fine Maureen, lovely. It's the drudgery of working them.
Pot plants need weeding and watering and pruning, Heather.
