The Big Mistake

[Bob Pacey]

Big Mistake

He came into the surgery
His face a pallid hue
One eye was swollen tightly closed
One ear was black and blue.

A golf club hung around his neck
Twisted in a stately pose
His collar bone was broken
Blood flowed freely from his nose.

The doc treated the symptoms
Then enquired as to his fate
How did he come to find himself
In such a drastic state.

I was golfing with my wife he said
And when were playing number six
We both teed off and sliced our balls
Way out into the sticks.

We started searching for them
Amongst the cattle in the yard
We found my ball quite easily
But my wife's was proving hard.

Her ball had simply disappeared
Another lost one did I fear
But a flash of white then caught my eye
From one bullocks hefty rear.

I gently lifted up the tail
And let out an inward cheer
My one true loves own ball was there
Stuck firmly in its rear.

That's when I made the big mistake
Which will explain the cause
Because I called out loudly to my love
"Hey this one looks like yours".
