Rather than being useless fighters, maybe being drunk meant there was a lack of co-ordination. Some drugs seem to give super-human strength which is where the danger lies.

Hi Shelley - Thanks

No I haven't entered it in anything, it's just something I occasionally fiddle around with because its topical I suppose.
It would also need a fair bit of polishing as well I suspect.

Cheers Terry

You're right Heather
I believe that ICE in particular not only messes with your mind but in some cases seems to (as you say) impart almost super human strength.

I'm obviously a bit slow on the uptake with this sort of thing, But I can't for the world of me, see why people knowing what it can do to you, ever start on it in the first place.

Cheers Terry

My son was beaten up by someone on ICE - while in his own house and minding his own business. He now suffers PTDS. You can't reason with someone on ICE.

People still start smoking Terry despite what we know and all the warnings.

Primary school level is probably where education on drugs and alcohol needs to start. Even then, teenagers will be teenagers and young bucks will be young bucks. Oestrogen injections might be the solution! ;)

Hi Heather
This epidemic touches so many people Heather and sadly there seems to be no end in sight - I'm sorry to hear about your son.
We're changing you know; certainly since I was a young bloke anyway, but I'm a far bit older than you are.

I was never a bloke to be part of the mob so to speak. I always had my close mates and got on well with most people without necessarily being a group sort of person. I played footy and cricket when young and a lot of the team mates were older than me.

I guess I was always a bit of a dreamer those days, to some extent I probably still am, so perhaps I didn't see much of the group scene either. Mind you I spent a fair bit of time around some pretty tough characters over the years and saw plenty of booze, but people were different back then and I at least, was more or less unaware of drugs.

A great poem Terry. It is unfortunate that what is happening now, is going to get a lot worse I feel.

I think it would definitely be worth tweaking up for a competition, Terry - even maybe one of the next Henry Lawson awards - you know, a modern take on "Faces in the Street".

That's interesting Shelley - I hadn't thought of that.

Thanks
