“THROUGH THE BRUSH OF NAMATJIRA”
© Ross Magnay 8/4/08

A short drive west of Alice, in the West Mc Donnell range,
the seasons come and seasons go, and so the colours change,
a scene that nature painted, and by Namatjira’s hand,
We see the visions captured, of this stunning ancient land.

The ghost gums and the mountains, as they take on different hues,
reds and greens, whites and browns, and all the different blues.
The narrow white and sandy creeks, against an azure sky,
sometimes painted flowing wet, but mostly painted dry.

The golden wattle blooming, and the sand of different reds,
the shady gum trees leaning, over ancient river beds.
The distant purple mountains and the closer ones of blue,
the West Mc Donnell country, that Namatjira knew.

See his view of dreamtime, through his visions of the land,
his feeling for the outback, the rocks and hills and sand.
The spinifex and mulga, and the ancient river trees,
through the brush of Namatjira, we can see the things he sees.

Lovely Ross, I enjoyed that. It brought images to mind of the Red Centre, the McDonnell Ranges and Namatjira’s paintings.

I have a couple of lovely Aboriginal paintings bought in Alice Springs on my walls.

There are some dots - but not all dots. There are lizards, kangaroos and fruit. Very tasteful :)

Beautiful Ross - I love the way you've painted such a very clear picture here.
