2018

We’ll say goodbye yet once again
And sing the Auld Lang Syne.
We’ll drink the champers
Blow the horns
And cheer the shattered crackers.
There’s things that we had meant to do
There’s things we shouldn’t do.
Like Faustus’ doom
The midnight strikes,
We won’t pass by that way again;
It is the last goodbye.

Yes Christmas 2018 is almost done and dusted - lets hope we're all still here for Christmas 2019.
Robbie Burns would no doubt approve of your poem Neville - I reckon it's pretty good too.

All the best for this festive season - perhaps the new year may bring a bit of life back to this forum as well -

Thanks Terry. I hope you have an enjoyable Christmas and New Year. This is a workshop so I did it in blank verse, couldn't quite work out a rhyme yet.

It's a pity that our forum has almost died out, it used to be fun and good company to bounce off with our ditties.

You had me worried there for a minute Neville - I had to read it again to see that it was the old year we were saying goodbye to and not you

Nothing wrong with free verse on here Mate - all poetry is able to be used.

I laughed at the shattered crackers, I dust did some baking and that kind of describes how some of mine turned out....a blind man wouldn't care - they taste good just like your poem

It wasn't meant to be free verse, it should have a metric pattern . I was sort of trying blank verse but in fact there are some rhymes. Champers and crackers are a sort of rhyme, I think it is half rhyme. And despite some people's objections, "do" rhymes with "do". Two words exactly the same can be a rhyme ; according to Andrew Lansdown this is called identical rhyme. ( Andrew Lansdown , ALLSORTS. Wombat Books. 2011, p 239 )
