LIQUID SERENITY ... Maureen Clifford © The ScribblyBark Poet.
It has turned somewhat cold this year - or maybe I'm just older
and feeling it a bit more in my bones.
My feet feel just like popsicles long frozen in the fridge
they're quite convinced we're in an Arctic Zone.
The morning fog, is thick and dense, and nothing can be seen
without fog lights - gold haloes moving fast,
the fog's so thick it muffles all the sounds out on the street,
in the distance heard, the steam train's whistle blast.
There's pea soup simmering on the stove with bacon bones to flavour
it and garlic bread just begging to be heated,
awaiting friends coming for lunch, friends who I've known for years
who very soon with fine wine will be treated.
Or should they crave a warming sip, there's scotch with ginger wine,
with rich red Marsala to share with the cheese.
I guess the simple fare I serve to them won't matter much
its friendship and good company that's guaranteed to please.

G/day Maureen
Like you I feel the cold these day, and would kill for a cup of your pea and ham soup, it's always been a favourite of mine.
Haven't heard a steam train whistle for yonks; the scotch sounds ok too, but never mind the ginger wine.
I reckon we'll have to put the stop watch on you girl; so fast out of the blocks as usual
Enjoyed your poem as well - might just inspire me to put the thinking cap on myself.
Cheers
Terry

Thanks Terry - let me know any time you are over my way and I'll be delighted to make you some Ham and Pea soup with Garlic Bread - it is absolutely comfort food.
I am only quick out of the blocks as I feel an obligation to lead by example
My old Dad's training - never ask the troops to do something you won't do yourself
Living in Ipswich we have the coal trains going through every night and always the whistle is blown - not sure for what reason - but it is such a mournful sound in the early hours of the morning.
At night when all is quiet and all are sleeping
I hear a mournful sound time after time,
the whistle blows, I hear the train approaching
the clicketty clack as she comes down the line.
From near and far are sounds reverberating,
the rumble and the grumble and the clank
of coal skips jostling as they round the curve and
proceed on 'longside the river bank.

I'm with Terry, Maureen - that restaurant of yours sounds anazing!
We've had a couple of frosts this last week with zero temperatures, but you've probably been colder.
Good on you for leading by example as always in our writing challenge!
Cheers

Yum, I can almost taste it - not that I need it to warm my bones over here but it's delicious nonetheless! Great use of the prompts Maureen, and so fast as Terry says - it's true that you do always set the example! Those two last lines are very true, by the way; it's not so much the food as the company.

Very good Maureen, I like that, the way you have made the images of friendship and eating together.
I'll try and do something for the exercise, I am running rough at the moment, have to have an op in two days time. I might be a bit slow for a while. I want to have a go though.
