GRANNY’S GIFT

My Grandma passed away last month
it made me very sad
she’d always been a mate to me
since I was just a lad.

I always loved her happy smile
her open friendly grin
her pearly whites meant all to me
until she chucked it in.

She had the biggest smile I’d seen
Folks would compliment her
I always wished I had her smile -
how I would torment her.

I can’t forget her funeral
the family bawled and cried
the townsfolk came to see her off
the church was packed inside

When the lawyer read the legals
it filled my heart with pride
I was a beneficiary
of grandma who just died.

He handed me a cardboard box
on it, ‘with love’ inscribed
a last treat from my old grandma
whom I had often bribed

I took it home and opened it
hoped to find debentures --
but blow me down inside I found
poor old Granny’s dentures.

G'day Joe,

It seems you have described a case of 'be careful what you wish for.' This poem was a nice lttle chuckle for me. Thanks for sharing.
