That's what's the matter .. Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBarkPoet
Do you all have days when things go wrong and nothing will go right?
Days when really we should stay in bed and turn days into night.
When getting dressed is just too hard, and going out a chore.
They're the days that are a worry and I think I know what for.
For my Mother used to say "that's what's the matter, yes it is
and there is no use in crying you've simply run out of fizz
you just put your best foot forward - and pretty soon you'll see
that tomorrow will be better, so much better vis-à-vis."
I confess that this darn Covid has overcome me with gloom,
and some days I want to hibernate and never leave the room,
but a friend, a good friend nags me, saying "you don't get out much
if you dinna stir your stumps you'll be completely out of touch."
And I recall Mum saying "that's what's the matter, yes it is
so there is no use in crying , go have a Coffee with Liz
you just put your best foot forward and accept what is just is..
all will be right come the morning don't go getting in a tizz."
Well one has to make an effort, not to slothfulness succumb
and there's nothing going to get done if sitting on your bum
for hours watching telly or just chilling with a book,
one must pull on big girl's panties and stop being such a sook.
In my head I hear my Mother saying "this is what's the matter,
yes it is I have no doubt at all, so quit with the back chatter
and stir your stumps and go outside the garden needs some tending
I am sure Facebook won't miss you for there's nought important trending."
So I'm out here in the garden and the sun is shining bright
all the birds are chirping, singing , serenading with their might,
my wee dog is doing zoomies just delighted I am here
and if Mum were here in person then we'd both enjoy a beer.
For I've no doubt she'd be saying in her posh and plummy tone
"that's what's the matter with the world today - we all have to atone
there are rules and regulations, made to keep us out of strife
so don't worry girl, just follow them, and keep enjoying life."

Sounds like good advise from no doubt a loving Mum.
Sometimes easier said than done though isn't it?
Well you certainly found a good burst of energy with this one Maureen.
I enjoyed reading it as well.

I agree Maureen, very enjoyable . The rhythm and feel is just right for the sort of folksey wisdom . I guess a lot could be said about the psychological effects of epidemic quarantine. You have given a positive and "defiant" challenge to the times.
