Homework for August 2023 - A New Language
A NEW LANGUAGE
(c) Shelley Hansen 2023
The Age of Great Technology! A blessing or a curse?
Designed to make things better - but at times, it seems they’re worse.
We speak a whole new language - words no longer mean the same
so now we Baby Boomers have to keep up with the game.
For RAM is not a woolly sheep, and you can’t trap a MOUSE
and WINDOWS aren’t those thing that let in light around the house.
No spiders in the world wide WEB, no teeth in MEGABYTE,
and you can’t eat your APPLE, or use IPADS for your sight.
Now books arrive on KINDLE, when it used to simply be
the sticks to start the campfire for a pannikin of tea.
Your mail comes on a TABLET, when it used to be a pill
you took for something VIRAL, that once meant that you were ill.
Vernacular is changing, as emojis fill the page.
It seems we’ve travelled backwards to the hieroglyphic age!
The only way to look at it, IMHO, I think,
is ROTFL (or it will send you to the brink!!)

Love it - especially the ROTFL
and what a witty poem you have written here. Well done you.

I agree with Maureen Shelley
Very clever and entertaining as well.
As you mention there are so many confusing things online and countless pitfalls as well.
I'm completely out of my depth with all the abbreviations that seem to float around.
What the hell does ROTFL mean for starters, just to make a point of my ignorance.
I use KOBO myself for books, speaking of which I seem to be finding it,
increasingly difficult to find a decent read - just can't come to grip with most of the modern stuff.

Yes certainly witty and entertaining Shelley, well done
!
And it definitely is a new language, and we'll need a whole new dictionary for it.
I'm with Terry there, finding it hard to keep up with it all!
Enjoyed the read,
Cheers
Ron.

Thank you all - and yes, the acronyms certainly are annoying!
I had seen ROTFL and its longer cousin - but had to google to find out the meaning before I included it in my poem!

I had no idea of either of those acronyms either, so you have educated me!
