Homework October? 'Idle Thoughts'
IDLE THOUGHTS
There’s sadness now out bush for me – out where the old blokes used to be
and though that country still appeals, it’s changed a lot you must agree.
Those old mates who had lived out here with who I’d chat and share a beer,
have sadly long since gone and joined the ranks of those who disappear.
Large mining pits now dot the scene to mar the views that had once been,
the untouched far horizons reaching out to places yet unseen.
For years this was my second home of breakaways and deep red loam,
an endless treasure trove of natural beauty there for all to roam.
Though starlit nights can still provoke the deepest thoughts for this old bloke,
while pondering the many unsolved mysteries to yet uncloak.
It’s such an awe-inspiring sight by feeble glow of campfire light,
surrounded by the peaceful stillness of an outback summer’s night.
The morning chorus brings a smile enhancing every dusty mile,
and tempting me to now set up a proper camp and stay awhile.

G'day Terry,
Well done mate and written in your true descriptive style. In some respects change can be a good thing but there is certainly a lot of negative sides to it all too, which you captured well.
We often watch those 'outback gem hunters' shows and I know they are dramatized a lot but some of the scenery is great.
Often think of you when watching and say that is 'Terry's landscapes!'
Enjoyed the read mate,
Cheers
Ron

Thanks Ron
It's good to keep having a go I reckon, hopefully helps to keep the mind occupied.

Ooh yes, Terry, your signature imagery here indeed, and capturing the poignancy of memories such as these so very well - love it!

Excellent poem as always, Terry - and as Catherine says, your trademark imagery!
Yep, although my time in the outback has been very limited compared to yours, there's no place quite like it, is there?
Cheers

Thanks Shelley
It's been a while since I was out there Shelley but really miss it.
As I've said before once that country gets into your blood as the saying goes,
It's there for good.
I can see by your own words you've been touched by it too.
Cheers

Good to see that you are still popping in to check the forum out.
I've just come back from Toodjay, where we held the state Bush poetry Championships,
and it was good to catch up with old friends there as well.
Cheers Terry
