When Life Was Good
Could it be so long ago - yet memories shine bright today,
on a farmhouse by a railway line not far from old Torbay.
Where the misty morns would clear to sun drenched rolling countryside,
and as kids we loved the freedom there, to wander far and wide.
Summer holidays were full of fun when out at grandma’s place,
for the world there seemed to move then at a kinder, gentler pace.
I can see the small farmhouse and shed - although they’re now long gone,
but they’re safely locked within my heart still - though the worlds moved on.
Granddad’s shed was built with sleepers, plus some corrugated tin,
where it housed his tools, and stock food in a large old wooden bin.
And there propped against a tall red gum you’d see his large, wheeled dray,
while off in the distance, his horse Gypsy wiled the hours away.
We would dash into the shed whenever summer storms appeared,
watching rain and bolts of lightning - hear the thunder as it neared.
Then you’d smell that special freshness that would follow on from rain,
but before too long the skies would clear to sunshine once again.
As I stand again here looking where the house and shed once stood,
memories come flooding back now of a time when life was good.
And recall again the bubbling creek down where wildflowers grew,
Then, for just a moment, live again, the childhood that I knew.

I can well relate to that one Terry, I really liked it, as so much I can picture of my own "childhood that I knew"
And certainly the title! How true that is.
Well done mate.
Cheers

Thanks Ron
As most have all of us have said at one time or another,
'Glad we grew up in the era that we did'
Cheers Terry

Excellent use of the prompts Terry - and I can definitely relate to the sentiments!
