THE SPLENDOUR OF AUTUMN

Post by mummsie » Sat May 07, 2011 10:59 pm

This has been the most spectacular Autumn, couldn't help but write a poem about it.

The Splendour Of Autumn

The days, they seem much shorter,
the nights begin to chill,
there's smoke haze in the valleys,
as Autumns colors thrill.

The trees are in transition,
there foliage loss profound,
the twirl of burnished colors,as
their cloaks become earthbound.

The raining leaves fall gently,
like spindles twirling round,
they form a patchwork blanket,
thrown softly on the ground.

As sunlight tips the branches,
leaves shine like gems of gold,
with shades of red and scarlet,
soft winds unleash their hold.

The changes of the landscape,
when Autumns glow sets in,
as nature shows her halo,
and morning dews begin.

This season full of color,
with sunset colored hues,
while trees prepare for slumber,
such splendor it imbues.

    G'day Sue,

OOps your poet side is showing. I love the image of raining leaves. I can't quite find the exact word I want to say here, beatiful is kind of right but not quite. I'll just say very well expressed.

I wrote an amusing one last Autumn. ( well I thought it amusing) I might post it as I'm sure I didn't post it before. I'll check first.

so are you down to 24 degrees Bob?   I think we hit 6 degrees here last night..still a way to go to catch up with the minus 10 we had one year at Springdale. Bring your woollies Heather ( the wearable ones not the 4 legged ones)

I love the Autumn colours too Sue and you have captured the feeling so well in this poem - love the idea of the patchwork quilt, that works well. I think of Jacaranda blossoms along a similar vein.

    Cheers

    Thanks Guys
Bob, it's a must, autumns here are spectacular, if I knew how to upload photos I would share some we recently took, spectacular.
Zondrae,I am now not satisfied to write just anything, so long as it rhymes.
Maureen, I am learning so much from you, I love the way you use the descriptive word in your poems and stories, really brings them alive.I am trying to put that into practice.
    Cheers

Lovely picture you have painted there Sue. I have seen the lovely colours of Autumn in other places and your poem recaptures the memory. It's not something we see in Queensland. :)

You describe it perfectly Sue. There is nothing like autumn in places like Bright and Harrietville and I imagine Tumut would be much the same. The colours, the chilly nights and dews, the perfect sunny days, the smell of wood fires. Just can't beat it. I like a place that has seasons.

No Maureen It was at least 23 degrees and freezing. I had to play golf and the sun kept getting into my eyes when i went to hit the ball. So cold I had to wear long pants.

Heather, I've always thought Tumut and Bright go hand in hand when it comes to Autumn

I was in Tumut many years ago, I don't think it was autumn but the thing I remember is at the showground, or park, seeing the tallest and biggest poplar trees I have ever seen.
