Great stuff Bob,
Never mind about political correctness mate, that's all a load of rubbish as we all know.
I also reckon Banjo would have had a chuckle at this one.

The mention of Bogans Got me thinking

Hey Nev, what an apt Stephen Fry quote re: the ballad. I love it "always has it's elbows on the table".

Shall I say,
We ARE amused!
Good take on the subject, Bob. I am tempted to have a go at 'fixing' the metre though. I must be catching Glenny's ailment of 'hives'. You can get away with a bit of 'brushing over' incorrect metre when performing, but not when it is in writing.... there are a few spots that could be easily fixed. But some are way out. Because metre has been my weak point - I automatically look for slips in almost everything I read these days.
Do you perform 'The Gay Farm Hand' (and please correct me if I'm wrong) I think it is by Neil MacArthur.

G'day Marty,
Stephen Fry had more to say on the subject of the ballad
" it can be macabre, sinister, preachy, ghostly, doom-laden,lurid,erotic,
mock-solemn,facetious,pious or obscene - sometimes it exhibits all these qualities at once." He must have been reading our web site..
