Thanks everybody for the comments. Sorry to be slow to reply, been busy, I had a few jobs to do for the wife.....I'm Serious !!

Thanks Marty. A tragic tale Marty.

No Ross, I'm not having a go at you. You might have sowed a seed that grew into some thoughts. :)

You like that Bob :P , does that contrast with something you don't like
You wouldn't want to do a duo with me, I'm bottom of the class in performing. ;)

Thanks David, poor fella.

Thanks Glenny, thanks William and Heather. I appreciate your reply.

Thanks Manfred. Parodies don't work unless the original is very well known to the reader or audience.

It's interesting, Slim Dusty didn't write the words of The Pub with No Beer, the song writer was Gordon Parsons. And the tune wasn't written by Slim either. The tune is the slightly adapted melody of a song called " Beautiful Dreamer " by the 19th Century American songwriter Stephen Foster. So much for the all aussie bush song
Stephen Foster is the bloke who wrote Campdown Races, Way Down upon the Su-Anee River, My Old Kentucky Home etc. My favourite Stephen Foster is probably the least known, it's called " That's What's the Matter ". An American Civil War marching song depicting the South as treacherous rebels

Neville,

Did we need to know all this?
From what I have read, Slim Dusty didn't write much of his material at all. Dosen't matter to his fans. They love him for what he was.

We need to know everything Zondrae, we are poets :)

I said it was interesting I didn't suggest that anyone should be unloved.
There is one country song that I like, it's called Love Letters in the Sand. I really like the first line, " On a day like to-day, we passed the time away " So I used that line, sort of in one of my poems, as .." It was a day like any other day "
Adapting and using other artists work has an honourable tradition actually. We have to, Solomon, the wisest man said " there is nothing new under the sun "

Very interesting, Neville . . just had a listen on YouTube to Beautiful Dreamer by Stephen Foster - and I'm sure I could hear a "Where are you, dear?" in the background.
