Howyadooin Dave.

Bloody hell man, that was quick on after I posted to old mate Bill. Yeah… when I was in the U/k, I was forced, through the country’s financial depression, to take a job truck driving… and the job description read something like…‘House Removalist’.
I humped bloody real heavy stuff all over the U/k. The best one was a delivery of very expensive wardrobes to a real posh hotel down on the south coast. There were six very grand double wardrobes, made in the finest oak that the hotel managers could find, and had been specifically built to the hotels design and measurements by a manufacturer in the midlands . My mission… should I accept it, was to pick up from the manufacturer and deliver to the hotel… ABSOLUTELY UNMARKED….
these bloody super heavy wardrobes. Luckily, I had a tail lift on the 20 ton Mercedes pantech.

When I had molly coddled these bloody huge wardrobes all the way down to the hotel, it came to pass that they would not fit in the service lift… at all… and had to be dismantled… in the hotel foyer… and shipped in bits up to the rooms and then put together again. I slipped with the screw driver on one wardrobe and put the tiniest scratch it the pedestal base. You would not have known had you been bloody human… but old mate saw it and told me he was not accepting that wardrobe and it could go back for ‘re-finishing’. It went back and I never heard anymore about it. But I would have thought that a posh hotel could at least get the measurements correct for the service lift if nothing else.

I have since ‘hung up’ my ‘removalists’ ticket and prefer to take time over the job. One box a day is great stuff. I’ll pack the contents of the china cabinet tonight, in sawdust, so the bits and pieces of fragile prehistory at least have some chance of a ten hour drag from here to there … at the mercy of me being behind the wheel.

It’s all good Dave…. ;)

Sorry Croc and I mean that from an old bushman whose bush understanding of the word PROSE was that it meant any works written ether as a short story or poem was just that. So sorry to let my ignorence show up that much. but it still is a very good story 8-) :? ( Poem ) just the same as the one Manfred wrote :o both of you write it like it was. like in the CD aussie yarns I tell it just as it is. only you write it a lot better than me

G'day croc, yep mate I know exactly where you are coming from mate, had some furniture I had to take from Brissy depot out to Charleville, I had a 40cu mtr pantech, it was only half a load but was some kind of German hardwood & this 'half' load I recon put me overweight, I also had the "normal" old piano up into an old Queenslander or a second floor unit, but my standout in my memory was a bloody Baby Grand up 8 flights of unit stairs, not because it wouldn't fit in the lift but because it was to damn heavy, so old mate & myself, in leather straps, humped the thing up those stairs, there are quite a number of 'tales' but won't go into them all now. :D

aveagoodone mate.

BTW....great poem eh!

Lovely place Theodore Glenny, ah just to stroll down The Boulivard on a Saturday morning and everyone stops for a chat.

If anyone tells ya any stories they are not true, ok.
