Bushranger - A Devil in the Detail

Post by Hully » Tue Jul 03, 2012 10:32 am

more poem than song - but see what you think...

Bushranger - A Devil in the Detail

First you come to dealing with your memories
and face up to the things you can’t forget
Then find a place to hide, the feelings deep inside
- Then you turn your mind to your regret

There’s a light inside a window on Wheago
As the shadow grows long on the Eastern side
And chances of the day all slowly fade away
- the only thing that’s left to do is ride

But the world was never round – you always knew
There’d be hills to climb and valleys to go through
so the road you ride upon, is never straight nor level
- And somewhere in the detail – there’s a devil

There are some who know your name for what you’ve taken
And some for what you chose to leave behind
But the gold that’s in your purse could never reimburse
The price you pay to buy your peace of mind

Now the fire that keeps you safe will not warm you
And the fire that keeps you warm will not hide
And it’s neither in your soul or the claiming of your goal
So the only thing that’s left to do is ride

But the world was never round – you always knew
There’d be hills to climb and valleys to go through
so the road you ride upon, is never straight nor level
- And somewhere in the detail – there’s a devil

There’s a Devil with a grin - When you feel like you could win
There’s a Devil at your side - When you need to try and hide
There's a Devil in your heart - And it gets inside your head
And Devils only take you where Angels fear to tread

Now the sun is rising slowly on the Lachlan
And it feels as though an angel’s at your side
So its time to make you way to another ‘come what may’
Where the only thing that’s left to do is ride

But the world was never round – you always knew
There’d be hills to climb and valleys to go through
so the road you ride upon, is never straight nor level
- And somewhere in the detail – there’s a devil

Really enjoyed it Hully. There's some great lines and thinking there and I'd love to hear it to music.

Thanks All,
I will try and do a demo and stick up in the recordings section - but I must confess, of the varied talents at my disposal, singing isn't one of them !....(maybe it should stay as a poem)
