Obsession

A poem I wrote yonks ago. Don't think I've posted it before.

I never did much cooking
early in my life.
I spent my youth just partying
and getting into strife.

I’m older now and wiser,
though perhaps not more mature,
‘cause I‘ve taken to my passion
like a fly takes to manure.

I watch and tape each cooking show.
Spend hours on the net.
I’ve bought so many cook books,
likely spend my life in debt.

My wife asks silly questions
about the books I read.
She doesn’t seem to understand
this unrelenting need

to elevate my knowledge;
to hone my culinary art;
to take in every single word;
to know it all by heart.

The family think(s) I’m crazy.
“You’ve lost it dad.” they say.
“You’ve got to stop this nonsense
or we’ll have you put away.”

I said I’d think it over,
and maybe change my ways.
And I really, really tried to.
I was sane for several days.

But Master Chef’s tomorrow night
and Jamie Oliver too.
I’m hooked. No use denying it.
Just something I must do.

So please … don’t tell my family,
about my small regression.
‘Cause there’s just no way I’m giving up
this newly found obsession.

Ya kidding me ain't ya Wazza ?

I can not stand cooking shows, weight loss programmes ( biggest loosers ) Yes they are !, building shows like The Block ( Heads ).

If they did not show nature programmes I do not think the tv would get a look in. Oh I will say that I do watch If You Are The One on SBS every week mainly because I love the way the Chinese think.

Oh and Jamie Oliver grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr cannot stand the sound of his voice.

Hi Terry, most years I grow my own and like you, keep the neighbours stocked up. This year my garden is bare. Just didn't get around to planting. I'll probably get back into it when the weather cools, so yes send some up, remembering that tomatoes don't travel well... home grown I mean ... not so the commercial ones. You could play cricket with some varieties.

Bob I sit down to the cooking shows with pad and pencil on my lap. Not all shows, I admit to agreeing with you about Jamie Oliver ... not my smorgasbord.
