ANOTHER BALCONY VIEW
ANOTHER BALCONY VIEW
I sit out on the balcony and look at lush green grass,
its texture as thick as the most expensive rug,
clouds lazily meander through blue sky with no impasse,
an outlook which my memory, I hope will not unplug.
Across the road a freshly ploughed field is lying bare
awaiting the sowing of a winter crop,
the aroma of rich dark soil permeates the air,
this, for city taint I’d gladly swap.
In the adjoining paddock Blossom stands, chewing her cud,
her pregnant body swelling at the sides,
content it seems with result from her time at stud,
though causing quite a wobble in her strides.
And next to Blossom’s compound is a healthy crop of corn,
close to harvest, so it does appear,
good company for her, both their progeny unborn
but, even my unpractised eye can see their time is near.
A flirty willy wagtail flits from post to wire on fence,
demeanour showing not a single care
while flights of top knot pigeons come close and then dispense
and the “ark ark” of crows can be heard everywhere.
In the distance I can see hills of rolling green
with thicker stands of vegetation higher,
all this ranks together with top sights I have seen,
sometimes scenes like these are all one does require.
The afternoon stays still and clear, my view goes on forever,
this peaceful country place has me entranced,
nature displaying the return from her endeavour,
oh, if more days like this could be advanced.

A call to the country
You paint a beautiful picture of Blossom serene and content in her surrounds

G'day Alan
So she should. She had a whole paddock to herself full of lush grass.
Regards, Jeff

I had to pay good money for a sandwich which was called a gourmet sandwich because they plonked a handful of lucerne sprouts on top. The paddock behind my place is covered in lucerne and the cows get to eat for free, as much as they like.

Not so loud, we don't want Jeff's Blossom to know she's going to be corned beef.

Re: ANOTHER BALCONY VIEW
When called, Blossom would come to the fence like a dog Neville. I reckon she'd have chomped into a corn beef sanga.

I have a picture/sketch in my kitchen of some cows and my own cows were named one by one after those in the picture. The only one I can remember now is Clover.

Re: ANOTHER BALCONY VIEW
The balcony view was at Killarney Nev, on the Southern Darling Downs about two hours drive from Brisbane. We spent a few days there earlier this month and Blossom's paddock was next door to our cabin. Don't know if she's a mother yet.
Heather, they're an interesting subject, cows, aren't they. Blossom is the regulation brown colour but, with an inquisitive black face - a real cutie.
